Town Hall Theater Announces Summer Programs For Youths
Shakespeare and Rock & Roll take center stage this summer as Town Hall Theater offers classes and performances for young people.
The popular School of Rock & Roll returns for a second year, from June 27-July 1. The Grift band members Clint Bierman, Peter Day and Jeff Vallone join Russ Lawton, Jer Coons and other rockers to work with middle- and high-school students, leading to an awesome concert at Town Hall Theater on the final day. Open to students who have already achieved a level of competence on their instruments.
THT's new education director, Lindsay Pontius, will offer a 2-session course on Shakespeare - an exceptional opportunity for serious young actors, age 12-17. Students may take either session, or may take both for a challenging summer immersion in acting.
Act 1: Speak the Speech meets Shakespeare on his terms, developing vocal and physical skills as well as comic timing and stage combat technique. This two-week program will be held on weekdays from July 11-22, 9:30 am - noon.
Act 2: The Play's The Thing explores the world of Shakespeare's The Tempest with acting, movement, and improvisation, resulting in two rollicking performances at Town Hall Theater. July 25- August 12, 9:30 am - noon. Performances will be held on August 13th and 14th.
For younger budding actors, age 8-11, The Actor's Trunk offers a world of improvisation and theatrical play that will culminate in a performance. August 15-18, 9 am-noon.
For more information about any of these programs, email Lindsay Pontius at education@townhalltheater.org, or call 388-1436.
