7) STAGE TUBE: On This Day 12/30 - KISS ME KATE

Today in 1948, opened at the Shubert Theatre. Kiss Me, Kate is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. It is structured as a play within a play, where the interior play is a musical version of William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. The original production starred AlfrEd Drake, Patricia Morison, Lisa Kirk and Harold Lang. Kiss Me, Kate was a response to Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! and other integrated musicals, and it proved to be his biggest hit and the only one of his shows to run for more than 1,000 performances on Broadway. It won the first Tony Award presented for Best Musical, in 1949. (more...)

9) Jessica Chastain to Skip Jan 10, 13 & 27 Performances of THE HEIRESS to Support ZERO DARK THIRTY

THE HEIRESS' Jessica Chastain announced on her Facebook page on Thursday that she will not be performing on Broadway on January 10th, 13th and 27th to support her film Zero Dark Thirty at the Critic's Choice, Golden Globes and SAG Awards. 10) ORPHANS, Starring Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf, Goes On Sale Today

Tickets for Broadway's Orphans, starring Alec Baldwin and Shia LaBeouf, will go on sale to the general public today, December 30. Lyle Kessler's play will be directed by Daniel Sullivan. This production will begin performances on March 19 and open on April 7 2013 at the Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street); this will be the first Broadway staging of the play.
