Tierney Sutton Sings at the Westport Country Playhouse 11/23

Grammy Award-nominated jazz vocalist and JazzWeek's Vocalist of the Year Award winner Tierney Sutton and her four-piece band will present a concert on Sunday, November 23, 7 p.m., at Westport Country Playhouse (Joanne Woodward and Anne Keefe, artistic directors, and Jodi Schoenbrun Carter, managing director).  Tickets to the one-night-only event are $30, $40 and $50.

Sutton's album "I'm with the Band" (2005) was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Jazz Vocal Album and won JazzWeek's Vocalist of the Year Award. It includes "Let's Face the Music and Dance," "'S'Wonderful," "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea," "If I Loved You," " Cheek to Cheek," "Blue Skies," "I Get a Kick Out of You" and "The Lady Is a Tramp."

The album "Dancing in the Dark" (2004), which was, according to Sutton, "inspired by the music of Frank Sinatra," includes tracks "What'll I Do," "All the Way," "Where or When" and "Fly Me to the Moon."  It debuted in the Billboard Top 10 Jazz Albums and remained on the charts for over 15 weeks.

Among Sutton's other albums are "On the Other Side" (2007) with tracks including "Get Happy," "Happy Days Are Here Again," "Sometimes I'm Happy," "Happy Talk" and "Smile"; and the album "Something Cool" (2002) featuring "Comes Love," "All or Nothing at All," "Walking after Midnight," "Crazy" and "The Best Is Yet to Come."

Sutton performed at Carnegie Hall, soloing with the New York Pops Orchestra. She has also played The Hollywood Bowl, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Monterey Jazz Festival.

Born in Wisconsin and educated at Wesleyan University and Berklee College of Music, Sutton was a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition in 1998. Her first solo album, "Introducing Tierney Sutton," was nominated for an Indie Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album.

Celebrating its 78th season, the venerable Westport Country Playhouse (Joanne Woodward and Anne Keefe, Artistic Directors; Jodi Schoenbrun Carter, Managing Director) is creating innovative new works and dynamic revivals. The Playhouse has produced more than 700 plays, 36 of which later transferred to Broadway including "Come Back, Little Sheba" with Shirley Booth; "The Trip to Bountiful" with Lillian Gish; "Butterflies Are Free" with Keir Dullea and Blythe Danner; "Absurd Person Singular" with Sandy Dennis, Geraldine Page and Tony Roberts; and "Our Town" with Paul Newman.  The list of actors, directors, and other theatre artists who have worked and continue to perform on the Playhouse's legendary stage reads like a "Who's Who" of the American theatre.  Following a multi-million dollar renovation completed in 2005, the Playhouse now produces year-round, welcoming 85,000 audience members annually. In addition to a full season of theatrical productions, the Playhouse presents educational programming and workshops; a children's theatre series; symposiums; music; films; and readings of short fiction, classical works and new plays.  Westport Country Playhouse serves as a treasured home for the theatrical arts, its audiences and its artists.  For the State of Connecticut, it is a true cultural landmark.
