Theatre Guild Stages THE PILLOWMAN to Close 2011 Season

By:

"The first duty of a storyteller is to tell a story ..."

But what if that story is so repellent, so against the natural order of things, that it imposes something on the reader that cannot be wiped away?

Katurian, a seemingly innocent writer of short stories grimmer than Grimm, is being interrogated by two police officers somewhere in a totalitarian dictatorship. But why? Could it be because children are being murdered and maimed in very similar circumstances to those in his macabre fairytales?

Is art imitating life or life imitating art? What responsibility does a writer take when fiction becomes fact?

McDonagh's blacker than black comedy poses many questions as it takes the audience on a daring white knuckle ride into the power of storytelling. You'll be horrified, thrilled and even laugh at this award winning play by the celebrated writer of In Bruges.
