LAKE WORTH PLAYHOUSE HOLDS OPEN AUDITIONS FOR OCTOBER GHOST PLAY: THE WOMAN IN BLACK

Open auditions for THE WOMAN IN BLACK, a ghost play by Stephen Mallatrat will be held at 7:00 p.m. on June 15 & 16, 2009 at the Lake Worth Playhouse, 713 Lake Avenue in Downtown Lake Worth. No appointment is necessary.

Director Pat Mackin returns to The Playhouse after directing the critically acclaimed 2006 production of THE IMMIGRANT.  He will helm this production, which is based on the popular horror novel by Susan Hill. THE WOMAN IN BLACK runs October 30 and 31 at 8:00 on The Playhouse main stage.

This is an open call. Actors will be asked to give cold readings from the script, and are encouraged to read the script prior to the audition. The Lake Worth Playhouse is a not-for-profit community theatre. Actors are not paid for appearing in Lake Worth Playhouse productions.

The Playhouse seeks actors to play the following roles:

  • Arthur Kipps -  A middle-aged attorney who enlists the services of a professional actor to help him re-enact the traumatic events of his youth. The actor playing this role will be required to portray a number of different characters, voices, ages, types, etc.
  • Actor-  A young man who plays the role of the "young Kipps" in the re-enactment of his ghostly event.
  • The Woman in Black - A non-speaking but essential role for women ages 18 and up.

About THE WOMAN IN BLACK
A middle-aged lawyer rents a theatre and hires an actor to help him re-enact - and thereby, hopefully, exorcise - a ghostly event which befell him many years previously with horrifyingly tragic results. The event occurred when he attended the funeral of an elderly recluse. There he caught sight of the woman in black, the mere mention of whom terrifies the locals, for she is a specter who haunts the neighborhood where her illegitimate child was accidentally killed. Anyone who sees her dies. The lawyer has invited some friends to watch as he and the actor recreate the events of that dark and stormy night.

This is a tale told in the classic English ghost story tradition that has theatre critics issuing "haunting" warnings:

A truly nerve-shredding experience!
