The Sheldon Presents THE SHELDON JAZZ QUINTET 5/10- 5/11
The Sheldon presents The Sheldon Jazz Quintet, Tuesday and Wednesday, May 10 and 11, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the perfect acoustics of the Sheldon Concert Hall. Enjoy complimentary coffee and pastries at 9 a.m. in the beautiful Louis Spiering Room. Led by guitarist Rick Haydon, The Sheldon Jazz Quintet features St. Louis all-stars performing straight-ahead jazz and swinging jazz standards! Haydon will be joined by acclaimed vocalist Mardra Thomas, and a rhythm section including pianist Reggie Thomas and drummer Miles Vandiver.
Rick Haydon is a Professor of Music at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where he is head of the Guitar Program. Haydon has been playing guitar for over forty years and has studied with many of the masters of jazz guitar including Johnny Smith, Howard Roberts, Pat Martino and Bucky Pizzarelli. His most recent recording, Rick Haydon and John Pizzarelli Just Friends for Mel Bay Records, recently reached number 19 on the Jazz Week Top 100 charts.
