The New York Film Academy Announces Opening Faculty Including Deidre Goodwin, Erick Buckley & More Broadway Vets

Aspiring musical theatre performers from all over the world will find both stage and screen possibilities in musical theatre at The New York Film Academy beginning this fall.

Faculty is comprised of professional, working Broadway and Hollywood performers, musicians and directors. The opening faculty will feature Broadway veterans such as Deidre Goodwin who has eight Broadway credits and who will be starring on Broadway as Velma in Chicago, Erick Buckley (Les Miz, Kiss Me Kate, Phantom and the upcoming Addams Family), Kristy Cates who spent two years playing Elphaba in Wicked, Michelle Potterf (Chicago, Will Rogers Follies, Crazy For You), Trisha Gorman (Grease, She Loves Me, Annie Warbucks), and Denis Lambert (A Chorus Line, The Producers, White Christmas.)

We also will have three-time Richard Rogers Award Winner and Jonathan Larson Award winner Andrew Gerle, composer of Meet John Doe. More to be announced. VP Boyle, well known in the Broadway community as a successful and respected musical theatre coach, will serve as chair for this new, two-year conservatory program beginning this September.

"I think this is an extraordinary opportunity for performers from around the world to have access to Broadway professionals who wish to share their extensive experience. Not only does our faculty have years of practical experience, but a tremendous desire and ability to teach. This is truly a one-of-a-kind program," says Boyle. VP has spent over 15 years creating an irreverent, yet holistic approach to musical theatre craft and currently has clients in every musical on Broadway. "There is no black and white path to success, but a commitment to learning from people who are immersed in the Broadway community is a sure-fire way to minimize the learning curve and get training that is both powerful and practical."

The New York Film Academy Musical Theatre Conservatory Program will be the first to offer participants extensive on-camera experience in conjunction with musical theatre performance with projects geared towards original movie musicals in the second year. NYFA offers conservatory-style programs and short-term intensive workshops that are based on the philosophy of "learning by doing" with campuses in New York and Universal Studios, California. For more information, visit www.nyfa.com or contact Celina Polanco at 212-674-4300.
