The New Theatre Project Debuts Final Installment of Spring Awakening Project, 716-8/2

The New Theatre Project is pleased to announce the opening of The Spring Awakening Project in it's final form. The Project is inspired by Frank Wedekind and written by Jason Sebacher in collaboration with The New Ensemble. The piece uses the Wedekind play to provide a basic structure. The cast has illuminated the timely themes with stories from their own lives. The fictional narrative has become woven with these truthful stories in an attempt to show just how relevant and vital this hundred-year-old text still is to the lives of young people.

Additional scenes and songs have been added to the latest and final installment of the script, including a song written in collaboration with the audiences from the run at Performance Network. Audiences attending The Spring Awakening Project at the first and second weekends of performances will also get their chance to participate in the creation of a new song to be used the following weekend of performances.

Wedekind's play is one of the most controversial plays of any time. Even still there were things he was not able to say in 1891. The Spring Awakening Project gives voice to these untold stories for a contemporary audience. That said, the show contains frank discussions of sexuality, graphic violence, simulated sexual acts, and nudity. Young people age 17 and younger will not be admitted without an adult. Parents can view the Parents Guide to The Spring Awakening Project online at www.thenewtheatreproject.org to determine if the show is suitable for their child and to provide a resource to create parent/child dialogue.

The Spring Awakening Project welcomes our newest ensemble member Luna Alexander who will be taking over the role of Wendla Bergmann. She will be joined by original ensemble members Matt Andersen, Amanda Lyn Jungquist, Caleb Kruzel, Ben Stange, and AustinMichael Tracy under the direction of Keith Paul Medelis. Janine Woods Thoma is the set and lighting designer, Andersen doubles as the choreographer, Jungquist as the photographer, Kruzel as the composer, Stange and the costume designer, and Tracy as the assistant director.

The Spring Awakening Project plays July 16 through August 2. Show times are Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm and 7 pm. Performances take place at pot & box on 220 Felch St. in Ann Arbor, MI located a block off N. Main between Kingsley and Summit.

Ticket prices are $15 and $10 for students, seniors, and industry (must have proof for any discount, resumes for the industry price will do just fine.)
