The New School for Drama Presents RICHARD III 10/10

By:

The New School for Drama presents William Shakespeare's Richard III, adapted and directed by Stephen Fried, on Thursday, October 8 through Saturday, October 10, at The New School Drama Theater. One of Shakespeare's most intriguing villains, Richard III tells the tale of the cruel Richard and his ambitious plot to clear his own way to the crown by whatever means possible.

"These performances enable our students to get to the heart of real theatre work and Stephen Fried is a wonderful mentor to our Drama students," said New School Drama Director Robert LuPone. "Our students work in an organic fashion and it serves as an excellent bridge to their professional lives."

Stephen Fried, a Yale School of Drama graduate and Drama League Directing Fellow, has a multitude of experience directing Shakespeare. Some of his recent work includes Henry V at Milwaukee Shakespeare, The Comedy of Errors at Shakespeare Theatre of NJ and Love's Labour's Lost at Illinois Shakespeare. In this production, the set designer is Wilson Chin; costume designer, Anya Klepikov; lighting designer, Gina Scherr; sound designer, Daniel Baker; and production stage manager, Patti McCabe.

Performances of Richard III are at 8:00 p.m. in addition to a Saturday matinee at 3:00 p.m. at The New School for Drama Theater, 151 Bank Street, 3rd floor. The performances are free but reservations are recommended. Call Ticket Central at 212.279.4200 or visit www.ticketcentral.com.

About The New School for Drama
At The New School for Drama, the instinct to create is revered. Through its interrelated three-year MFA program in acting, directing, or playwriting, the school is forging the next generation of dramatic artists. A faculty of working professionals brings to the fore each student's unique and original voice and helps them establish a rooted sense of who they are as individuals and as artists. The New School's history in the dramatic arts began in the 1940s, when the Dramatic Workshop, led by founder Erwin Piscator and a faculty including Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg, fostered artistic voices as distinctive as Tennessee Williams and Marlon Brando.
