The Elephant Man at TheatreWorks Begins June 20
TheatreWorks opens its 38th season with a revival of Bernard
Pomerance's astonishing Obie and Tony Award-winning drama The Elephant Man beginning June 20 through July 15.
"First presented at TheatreWorks in 1985 in a landmark production that earned the company numerous critical accolades, The Elephant Man is a stunningly poetic drama that calls into question the true meaning of beauty, touching the very heart of the human struggle to find and maintain dignity," states press notes, "Debuting on Broadway in 1979 and enjoying a revival in 2002, this moving portrait chronicles the life of John Merrick, the deformed 19th century sideshow attraction who became an urbane and witty favorite of Victorian society." Contains partial nudity.
Previews runs June 20, 21 & 22, with an Opening Night Saturday, June 23. Performances run through Sunday, July 15.
Show times: Previews at 8PM; Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7:30PM; Thursdays and Fridays at 8PM; Saturdays at 2 & 8PM; and Sundays at 2 & 7PM.
"Visual Voice" audio-described performances are available July 13, & 14 at 8PM, and July 15 at 2PM.
