The New School and CAP21 Offer Credit Transfer for Musical Theater Artists

The-New-School-and-CAP21-Offer-Credit-Transfer-for-Musical-Theater-Artists-20120716

The New School for Public Engagement announced today a new agreement with the Collaborative Arts Project 21 (CAP21), America's leading independent musical theater conservatory, to provide eligible CAP21 students credit-transfer options towards undergraduate degrees at The New School.

"Learning across disciplines is a fundamental New School value - a value significantly expanded by our new collaboration with CAP21," said David Scobey, executive dean of The New School for Public Engagement. "We are thrilled to offer performers the opportunity to cultivate both technical skills and an in-depth understanding of the theory behind the craft."

Effective immediately, the agreement offers current CAP21 students and recent graduates from both the two-year professional program and the summer professional program the opportunity to work towards a Bachelor's of Arts or a Bachelor's of Science. Students from the two-year professional program may transfer up to three liberal arts and 60 non-liberal arts credits; students from the summer professional program may transfer six non-liberal arts credits. Credits may be transferred towards any degree program within The New School for Public Engagement, as long as applicants follow standard application procedures and maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 of higher during their tenure at CAP21.

"We love being an open source for our students," said Frank Ventura, executive artistic director, CAP21. "This opportunity with the New School for Public Engagement is one more way that students can continue their growth and education as an artist of the 21st century, in this great city."

Envisioned as a self-designed program of study, the agreement offers students the opportunity to pursue individual interests through courses across disciplines, both on-campus and online. Undergraduate students in The New School for Public Engagement may also take courses from across the university's divisions including Parsons The New School for Design and Mannes College The New School for Music. In addition, students who have earned at least 60 undergraduate credits may apply for bachelor's/master's status to enroll in graduate-level courses at The New School for Social Research and The New School for Public Engagement.

The New School for Public Engagement's Undergraduate Program has for more than half a century offered rigorous, self-designed inter-disciplinary education to adult learners. All undergraduate program students have access to hundreds of courses across The New School, as well as all the lectures, events and other opportunities. The New School offers scholarship opportunities for U.S. citizens and international students based on both need and merit.
