The Magnet Theater has announced Block Party, a brand-new weekly night of improv featuring the theater's most seasoned performers. Veteran ensembles The Boss and Junior Varsity will play at 8 pm while new additions The Wrath and Ariana Grande play at 9 pm. Block Party debuts Thursday, April 7 at 8 pm and will continue every Thursday.
Members of The Boss and Junior Varsity, two of New York's most respected improv teams, were handpicked by Magnet founder/improv guru Armando Diaz and include Megan Gray (Magnet Artistic Director) and Louis Kornfeld (former Megawatt Director). These teams have been an integral part of the New York improv scene since 2007.
Joining them are two former Wednesday night ensembles: The Wrath and Ariana Grande. Says Artistic Director Megan Gray, "The Wrath and Ariana Grande are incredible teams that have consistently put on confident, cohesive and hilarious shows. We couldn't be happier that they're joining us on Thursday nights. Block Party is going to be awesome."
The Wrath was formed in 2011 and is known for patient scene work, attention to detail, commitment to grounded realities and believable acting. Ariana Grande, formed in 2014, specializes in relatable yet ridiculous characters and has a freewheeling style that favors fun over form. Ariana Grande recently performed at the exclusive 2016 Seattle Festival of Improvised Theater.
Block Party's talented cast has credits on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Colbert Report, The Today Show, Funny or Die, Second City Theatricals, Story Pirates, The Truth podcast, UCB Comedy, Baby Wants Candy, MTV2's Subterranean, the NY Times Magazine, Comedy Central online, Quirky.com, Fox's Laughs, ESPN, MTVU and MTV online.
