We're taking another deep dive into contractual language today, but with a really fun twist. We talk a lot about the creation process of new musicals, but what is it that allows ensemblists to create all those characters? Do they like doing it? How are they paid for the work they do? Is there some sort of blanket catchall term that allows this to happen?
Yup.
It's "As Cast." And if you don't know, now you know.
Our incredibly accomplished and super-cool guests Seán Martin Hingston, Vasthy Mompoint, and Anne L. Nathan take the plunge with us to figure all of this out, tell their own creation stories, and, as always, fold it all in to the magic of theatre. Enjoy!

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLIST
The Ensemblist is an inside look at the experience of being a Broadway performer- from the first rehearsal through performing eight shows a week and beyond. Whether you're an experienced theatre professional or a passionate fan, The Ensemblist gives listeners the opportunity to get to know new performers and the great work they do onstage, while also shedding light on some of the hidden innerworkings of Broadway. Do you sit down to read your Playbill at a Broadway show and wonder exactly who all those names are below the title? The Ensemblist focuses on those unsung heroes of the theatre world- the ensemble members making each show tick.
We are changing the conversation about what it means to be a successful artist on Broadway. Episodes cover topics that the general public may not know about- being a swing, replacing someone in a show, dancing with a partner night after night, what being "in tech" means, what it's like to dance captain or create new work from the ground up. Created and hosted by Mo Brady (The Addams Family, SMASH) and Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Chicago, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), The Ensemblist is the only podcast that shows you Broadway from the inside out.
Mo Brady
co-creator/co-host
Mo made his Broadway debut as the pumpkin pants-clad Conquistador in The Addams Family, where he also understudied the role of Wednesday's boyfriend. Lucas Bieneke. On the second season of NBC's "Smash", he played Gabe, one of the performers on Hit List's journey from off-Broadway to the Tony Awards. Having hung up his tap shoes for now, these days he works as Video Producer for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. He likes hiking, bourbon and his son, Brady.
