The Drama League's DIRECTORFEST Comes to Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex, 12/6-9

The-Drama-Leagues-DIRECTORFEST-Comes-to-Abingdon-Theatre-Arts-Complex-126-9-20010101

The Drama League presents the 29th Annual DirectorFest, a festival of one-act plays staged by the Fall Directing Fellows of The Drama League Directors Project, beginning December 6 - 9 at The Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex, 312 West 36th street (at 8th Avenue).  The performance schedule will be on Thursday, December 6 at 7:00 PM, Friday, December 7 at 8:00 PM, Saturday, December 8 at 2:00 PM & 8:00 PM and Sunday, December 9 at 3:00 PM.

DirectorFest offers an exciting glimpse into the future of American theatre by presenting one-ACT Productions staged by four of the nation's most promising young directors, which include Cat Miller, David Mendi?abal, Christopher Windom, Knud Adams., joining the ranks of many prominent graduates of The Drama League’s prestigious program that include alumni Pam MacKinnon (Clybourne Park), Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher) and Diane Paulus (The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess).

“As we approach our 29th year,” states Roger T. Danforth, Drama League’s Deputy and Artistic Director, “we have grown to become the preeminent development program for theatre directors – providing talented young artists with career-changing experiences in the professional theatre.”  He went on to add, “DirectorFest is the culmination of The Drama League Directors Project Fall Fellowshipprogram.  Thanks to the support of our members, The Drama League’s four fellows receive the funding and support they need to produce a fully staged production in New York.”

This year’s talented young directing fellows have been assisting master directors on some of the biggest productions in NYC this season. Now they have a chance to show off everything they’ve learned. The evening will consist of:

A Brief History of America by Dipika Guha

Directed by Cat Miller

Swept along by the storm of history a young girl charts a path through life, death, love and loss – A Brief History of America is both a radical and simple re-imagining of our collective past.

Minotaur by Harrison David Rivers

Directed by David Mendi?abal

Somewhere in suburbia, a father attempts to connect with his teenage son who has his sights set on an older man.

Moony’s Kid Don’t Cry by Tennessee Williams

Directed by Christopher Windom

In his first play ever to be published, Tennessee Williams gives us Moony, a man who has fallen short of the American Dream, but fights oppression with ambitious dreams of his own.

Gun Logistics by Max Posner

Directed by Knud Adams

Adams and Posner are teaming up to create a brand new play about two lonely people who steer their failing lives on a collision course toward each other, written for Birgit Huppuch and Paul Thureen

The performances are FREE to Drama League Members and Industry Professionals ($18 Suggested Donation at the door).  To make a reservation, call 212-244-9494.

Join The Drama League for THE DIRECTORS Roundtable Discussion on Saturday, December 8, 4:00 PM.  This program is free for all that want to participate.
