The Bushnell Welcomes Vienna Boys Choir Holiday Concert 12/17

By:

The angelic voices of the Vienna Boys Choir will resound throughout Mortensen Hall at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. as the young choristers present their holiday repertoire. Mesmerizing audiences for more than 500 years, the internationally acclaimed choir will feature favorites such as "I'll be home for Christmas" and "Silver Bells," in addition to a selection of timeless French, Italian and Russian carols.

Tickets for the Vienna Boys Choir are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting The Bushnell Box Office at 166 Capitol Avenue in Hartford or by calling (860) 987-5900. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.bushnell.org. Ticket prices start at $19.50. Ticket prices do not include all applicable fees.

Founded by Emperor Maximilian I in 1498, the Vienna Boys Choir began as six boys among the court's musicians. Today approximately 100 members make up four touring choirs whose voices reach almost half a million people as they perform around 300 concerts annually. The choir performs everything from medieval to contemporary and experimental music and in 2002 even released their first ever pop album.

More recently the Vienna Boys Choir was the subject of Curt Faudon's 2009 documentary Silk Road. The film shows the choir's travels through Korea, Japan, Canada and the U.S. while the soundtrack includes unexpected highlights from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, China and Mongolia.
