The BritArts Committee and Drama Desk to Present Reception With Michael Grandage and Mark Brokaw, 2/13

The-BritArts-Committee-and-Drama-Desk-to-Present-Reception-With-Michael-Grandage-and-Mark-Brokaw-20010101

Multi award-winning stage directors Michael Grandage CBE and Mark Brokaw will participate in a special program and reception on Monday, February 13, 6 to 8 PM, co-hosted by The BritArts Committee of The St. George’s Society of New York and the Drama Desk at the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Center, 31 West 52nd Street, in Manhattan. There will be introductions by Drama Desk Board Member Elysa Gardner, Theatre Critic for USA Today, and Gavin Henderson CBE, Principal, Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney is the event sponsor.

Michael Grandage, President of the Central School of Speech and Drama of London University and immediate past Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse, is coming to New York to direct and exciting new production of Evita, which begins previews on February 13, at the Marquis Theater in preparation for its opening on April 5. He just completed 10 award-winning years as Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse. Notable plays that subsequently came to Broadway from Donmar include Red, with Eddie Redmayne and Alfred Molina, and Frost/Nixon with Frank Langella and Michael Sheen. His other credits are Richard III with Kenneth Branagh, Edward II  with Joseph Fiennes, Suddenly Last Summer with Diana Rigg and The Tempest and Don Carlos with Derek Jacobi.

Mark Brokaw is scheduled to direct the new, first-ever Broadway production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, projected to open during the 2012-1013 Broadway theatre season. Currently the Artistic Director of the Yale Institute for Music Theatre, Brokaw’s Broadway credits include directing the musical Cry Baby, along with the plays The Constant Wife, Reckless and After Miss Julie. He has directed at Donmar’s Warehouse and Dublin’s Gate Theatre and is an artistic associate of Roundabout Theatre.

The $20 cover charge includes wine and light fare. Space is limited and payment is expected prior to start of the event. For reservations: 212-682-6110.

The next event of The BritArts Project of the St. George’s Society of New York will focus on “Theatre As An Investment” and will be co-presented with The League of Professional Theatre Women on April 9, 2012 at the Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Center, 31 West 52 Street.
