Texas Performing Arts Welcomes DELFOS DANZA CONTEMPORANEA 9/23

By:

Texas Performing Arts' 2010-2011 Season is proud to highlight Mexico's 2010 Bicentennial and Centennial celebrations with performances that emphasize the richness and diversity of Mexican performing arts. Widely regarded as Mexico's premier contemporary dance company from Mazatlán, Delfos Danza Contemporánea performs at Bass Concert Hall on Thursday, September 23 at 8PM.

Founded by Mexican choreographers Víctor Manuel Ruiz and Claudia Lavista, Delfos Danza Contemporánea creates and presents works of contemporary dance while developing a dance space that fosters education, exchange, and communication. This year, founding member and current dancer/choreographer Omar Carrum was awarded a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship.

Delfos will perform their piece Cuando los Disfraces se Cuelgan (When the Disguises are Hung Up), an interesting choreographic search that integrates various languages such as dance, video, computer animation, and music. The theme is the unveiling of our interior world, continuously covered by the many costumes or disguises of daily life.

Prior to the performance, Texas Performing Arts has invited dozens of community arts and cultural organizations to be part of A pre-show Mexico 2010 information fair in the lobby of Bass Concert Hall. These organizations are the heart of our city's vibrant cultural scene, and we want to offer our "house" for a celebration of the outstanding work these companies do year-in and year-out. There will be entertainment, prizes, and a photo exhibition by renowned Mexican photojournalist José Hernández-Claire.

Delfos is presented by Texas Performing Arts' ArtesAméricas program. In partnership with the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies, ArtesAméricas promotes cultural dialogue in the Americas through the performing arts. For more information, please visit artesamericas.org.

Other Texas Performing Arts performances highlighting Mexico 2010 include internationally celebrated theatrical company Operación Clown at the McCullough Theatre on Wednesday & Thursday, September 15 & 16 and new music superstar Jordi Savall at Bates RecitAl Hall on Sunday, October 3.
