Tarzan to Close on Broadway July 8

Presented by Disney Theatrical Productions (Thomas Schumacher, Producer) and based on the Disney animated film, TARZANŽ will play its final performance on Sunday, July 8th at 6:30pm.  The Broadway production has been seen by more than 500,000 people, having opened in March, 2006 and played 486 regular performances and 35 preview performances.

Disney's first international production of TARZANŽ opened in April 2007 at the Circustheatre in The Hague, Netherlands to enthusiastic reviews and has already received several theatrical awards. Additional international productions are in development and will be announced at a later date.

Thomas Schumacher says: "I am disappointed that the Broadway production of TARZANŽ will close earlier than any of us had hoped, and I would have loved for it to have been as successful in New York as it is now in Holland. Despite this, TARZANŽ was the Broadway debut for two artists I have long admired and respected, and for this I am extremely proud. The opportunity to work again with the legendary Phil Collins, who expanded his film score for the stage production, and with Bob Crowley in his Broadway directorial debut has been hugely gratifying. I know that as we continue to produce TARZANŽ around the world, audiences will embrace it with as much enthusiasm as we put into creating it."

The remaining performance schedule for TARZANŽ is as follows:

Tuesday, June 26th at 8pm
Tuesday, July 3rd at 8pm
Wednesday, June 27th at 2pm and 8pm
Wednesday, July 4th at 2pm
Thursday, June 29th at 8pm
Thursday, July 5th at 8pm
Friday, June 29th at 8pm
Friday, July 6th at 8pm
Saturday, June 30th at 2pm and 8pm
Saturday, July 7th at 2pm and 8pm
Sunday, July 1st at 3pm
Sunday, July 8th at 1pm and 6:30pm

Tickets for TARZANŽ are available at www.DisneyOnBroadway.com, the Richard Rodgers Theatre Box Office, and all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling Ticketmaster's Disney on Broadway hotline at (212) 307-4747. Prices range from $20 - $110. For group sales and information please call (800) 439-9000.

Patrons with tickets purchased for performances after July 8th should contact the point-of-purchase outlet for information.

The Broadway production stars Josh Strickland as Tarzan, Jenn Gambatese as Jane, Merle Dandridge as Kala, Robert Evan as Kerchak, Chester Gregory II as Terk, Timothy Jerome as Professor Porter and Donnie Keshawarz as Clayton. Alex Rutherford and Dylan Riley Snyder alternate in the role of Young Tarzan.

The original cast recording of TARZANŽ was released by Walt Disney Records in June 2006 and continues to hold a spot on Billboard's Cast Recording Chart each week. It is now available at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, in music stores and through music retailers online.

Tarzan: The Broadway Adventure, a book by Michael Lassell, was released by Disney Editions, an imprint of Disney Book Group in April 2007. Tarzan: The Broadway Adventure is an intimate backstage look at the five-year development process of TARZANŽ, from early concept drawings to auditions and exploratory flying workshops, through rehearsals and previews, and even to the gala opening night. Tarzan: The Broadway Adventure features the photos of three renowned photographers: Broadway production photographer Joan Marcus, sports photographer Heinz Kluetmeier and portraitist Ruven Afanador.

DISNEY THEATRICAL PRODUCTIONS was formed in 1994 and operates under the direction of Thomas Schumacher. The company's inaugural production, Beauty and The Beast, currently the sixth longest-running show in Broadway history, will play its final Broadway performance after 13 years on July 29, 2007. The Lion King began a celebration of its 10th Anniversary on Broadway by opening to rave reviews in Johannesburg, South Africa earlier this month. Directed by Tony AwardŽ-winning director Julie Taymor, The Lion King can also currently be seen on stage in London, Hamburg, Tokyo, Seoul, and two touring companies throughout the U.S., with a new production to open in Paris this October. Mary Poppins, a co-production by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, is now playing at London's Prince Edward Theatre and at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre, where it has become the #1 new musical of the 2006-2007 season. Later this summer, some of the theater's most innovative artists, led by Francesca Zambello, will gather in Denver to create The Little Mermaid, with a score composed by eight-time Academy AwardŽ winner Alan Menken and the legendary Howard Ashman, with new lyrics by Glenn Slater, before opening on Broadway in December.
