TWO DAYS 'TIL DAWN Plays Gene Frankel Theatre June 8

By:

Two Days ‘til Dawn, a new play by Tyler Ham Pong, deals with a writer who is searching for inspiration, but ultimately finds madness as he encounters the ghosts of historic literary figures. The play will have its premiere on June 8, presented as part of the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity at the Gene Frankel Theatre, whose mission statement is to "keep the legacy of Gene Frankel alive, by nurturing new talents, that voice who we are today."

Directed by Laura Sisskin-Fernández, she plans to use this production as a way to raise awareness for The Lower East Side Ecology Center, a foundation working towards a Greener New York. She and her team are even planning on volunteering at the center, along with reducing and recycling production-related waste to keep the production Green.

Sisskin-Fernández says that the play "is not only an expression of art as life, but a presentation of art created in life." She is no stranger to straddling the line of farce and tragedy, having assistant directed the sold-out run of The Cherry Orchard, starring Julie Garfield, at the Terry Schreiber Studio. Tyler Ham Pong's previous play, Moony Mercury, was a science-fiction about philosophy, politics and religion. While Two Days ‘til Dawnavoids time travel and zombies, it continues his trend of hyper aware dialogue, and analysis of the human condition, "giving the audience a sense of the process itself," according to the director. She has even included a play-within-a-play which takes the form of a dance number, supported by the opening monologue. Although the dream-like elements will appeal to fans of experimental theatre, the play is also intended for a larger audience, given its themes of family, trust and love.

The Open Lab Collective presents Two Days ‘til Dawn starring Anthony Ames, Mary Monahan, Geoffrey Pomeroy and Jillian K. Waters.

Costume Designer/Assistant Director is Crys Huyett. Lighting Designer is Bryanna Meloni. Choreographer is Bronwen Carson.

Performances will be at the Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond St., New York, NY, on June 8th at 9:30pm, June 11th at 3pm, June 19th at 6pm, June 20th at 4:30pm, June 22nd at 7pm and June 25th at 5pm. Tickets are $18.00. For reservations, visit www.planetconnectionsfestivity.com.
