TRIO Plays November 10-15 At Fortyfive Downstairs

By:

TRIO explores the mysterious death of violin virtuoso, Karl Munch, who is found dead in his hotel room in Vienna under a cloud of sexual misadventure. Karl's life and the details surrounding his death are illuminated by the three men closest to him - Ben Goldstein (his New York agent), Peter Munch (his twin brother based in Melbourne) and Robbie O'Donnell (his British lover) - who try to make sense of Karl's life and genius, revealing their inner lives and personalities, which emerges into a richly vivid and complex psychological study.

Chris Bunworth, Larrikin Ensemble Theatre artistic director, plays all three characters in TRIO where they meet for the first time on the anniversary of Karl's death. TRIO is laced with an evocative soundtrack and score including Mendelssohn and Mozart to Chet Baker and Ravi Shankar Playwright Dina Ross is a lover of jazz and classical music and explained, 'TRIO is a symphony for voice - a play where music and the actor's performance blend intimately, allowing for point and counterpoint, harmony and dissonance.' 'I was fascinated by the nature of genius, its egocentricity and unpredictability, especially when centred on musical brilliance and wanted to investigate the theme of 'those whom the Gods love die young' after hearing the Mendelssohn violin concerto played by the late Michael Rabin - a young talent who died in his early 30s in mysterious circumstances.'

TRIO embraces the timeless themes of love; heterosexual, homosexual and fraternal - but above all, it features the love of music, art and how a single-minded passion can both create and destroy.

Tuesday - Saturday 8pm, Sunday 5pm
Tickets: $25/$20
