THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD Comes to Kelsey Theatre, 10/2

THE-YELLOW-BRICK-ROAD-Comes-to-Kelsey-Theatre-101-2-20010101

Click your heels together tres veces (three times) and follow the adventures of a teenager who is just as sure to win hearts as her endearing predecessor, Dorothy Gale of Kansas. Embracing the richness of Latin culture, Theatreworks USA presents the new musical "The Yellow Brick Road," a bilingual tale of 15-year-old Dora, at Mercer County Community College's Kelsey Theatre.

Performances take place on Saturday Oct. 1 at 2 and 4 p.m. Kelsey Theatre is located on Mercer's West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.  ??Caught between two worlds - her Latin family traditions and contemporary American culture - Dora embarks on a journey of self-discovery on the eve of her quinceañera, her 15th birthday.

A mysterious woman disrupts her party to forewarn Dora about a trip that will take her far from home.   While traveling along the Amarillo Brick Road en route to the Emerald City, Dora meets three friends, each from a different Latin culture. She also meets a wicked witch flamenco dancer, and a glamorous Jennifer Lopez-esque Maga de Oz. In the end, she discovers the true meaning of "home." Songs by Jaime Lozano and Tommy Newman capture a spectrum of Latin flavors from Cuban and Castilian to mariachi.

Theatreworks USA is America's largest and most prolific professional not-for-profit theatre for youth and family audiences. Since 1961, it has enlightened, entertained and instructed more than 78 million people in 49 states and Canada.??Tickets are $10 for all ages. Tickets may be purchased online at www.kelseytheatre.net or by calling the Kelsey Box Office at 609-570-3333. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible. Free parking is available next to the theater.

For a complete listing of adult and children's events for the 2011-12 season, visit the Kelsey website or call the box office for a brochure.
