THE WOMEN OF TU-NA HOUSE Comes to Hollywood Fringe, 6/12-16

Mad Cat Productions in collaboration with The Hollywood Fringe Festival presents THE WOMEN OF TU-NA HOUSE, making its west coast debut on the Fringe Central Mainstage with just three performances at the Open Fist Theatre Company, located at 6209 Santa Monica Boulevard, on Tuesday (preview) June 12th @8pm, Thursday June 14th @5:30pm and Saturday June 16th @3:30pm.

What matters most... the size of the boat, the motion of the ocean or Jeremy Lin? Find out as you’re whisked on a wild visit to an Asian massage parlor, where you’re guaranteed plenty of bang for your buck, and meet the women who work there, a succession of eight disparate, distinct characters, as they search for their own “happy endings.”

Written and performed by veteran New York actress Nancy Eng, this funny & entertaining one-woman show offers a rare glimpse into a surprising, comical and sometimes sad world generally seen only through almond-shaped eyes.

Last performed at the 15th Annual New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC) to sold-out audiences last August, THE WOMEN OF TU-NA HOUSE ranked in the top ten out of 190+ shows.

Developed during Eng’s participation in Pan Asian Repertory Theatre’s Acting/Writing Workshop (PART) and NewWorks 2011, The Women of Tu-Na House was originally conceived as a showcase for three actresses but emerged as a viable one-women show after much encouragement from the PART workshop’s instructor, Ernest Abuba, an Obie Recipient and member of the theatre faculty at Sarah Lawrence College, who has also been the show’s director since inception.

Nancy Eng (SAG/AFTRA/AEA) is an alumna of the original “Fame” High School of Performing Arts with a BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts whose credits include television roles on 30 Rock, Rubicon, Law & Order: SVU and film roles in Fame, God’s Land, Premium Rush. Stage credits include roles in PART’s recent production of WE ARE at the West End Theatre, the 1st half of Pan Asian Rep’s Vietnam Project II and the 13th Street Repertory Theatre’s production of Orphans. Nancy is also a founding ensemble member of Leviathan Lab.

"Although it would be better to say my intent was to change the way others think, make the world a better place or to give voice to those who are frequently seen but seldom heard with tales often imagined but rarely told, I cannot," Eng says. "The Woman of Tu-Na House was created as a form of therapy following the death of my beloved cat Madison to simply entertain."
