A trio of Broadway's biggest hit musicals, Cinderella, Mamma Mia! and The Phantom of the Opera are leading the charge and meeting the needs of an audience demand for more choice and schedule flexibility with the creation of Thursday matinees at 2:00pm beginning Thursday, April 3, 2014.
In observing the evolving attitudes and behavior of the theater going public, Broadway general manager Aaron Lustbader recognized an opportunity to reach a new audience.
"We're excited to offer theater goers the new option of a Thursday matinee beginning this spring to see three of Broadway's great hit musicals. While London's West End has a long tradition of different weekday matinee schedules, Broadway has generally offered only Wednesdays until now.
We are confident that by joining forces, the Thursday matinee will become a popular choice for both individual theater goers and groups who will be thrilled with less congestion on the sidewalks, more tables to be had at one of the many theater district restaurants, and more available parking for cars and buses. It is exciting to make first-class live entertainment available to even more interested theatre-goers in New York especially as tourism levels reach new heights in the city," said Lustbader.
