THE ISLAND OF NO TOMORROWS Begins 11/8 at Interart Theatre

Fengar Gael's The Island of No Tomorrows, an erotic, quixotic musical fantasy directed by Lorca Peress runs at InterArt Theatre from November 8nd through 18th. The play, a co-production between InterArt Theatre Development Series and MultiStages New Works Contests, is part of the League of Professional Theatre Women's "30 Plays Celebrate 30 Years Series". The cast features Richarda Abrams*, Jen Anaya, Debra Cardona* (Mary Poppins: National Tour, On The Twentieth Century: Goodspeed Opera House), Pedro Carmo (Pan Am), Veronica Cruz* (Ariel Dorfman's Widows: 59 E 59 St. Theatres), Alexis Lauren Kinney*, Lina Sarrello* and Alexis Sweeney. *(Members of Actors' Equity)

Taking place on a fictional island off the coast of Argentina, the story unfolds with the birth of the infant Esperanza whose mother dies in childbirth. When doctors replace the child's damaged heart with an artificial one her father, Don Hilardo, seeks to make his daughter's life as comfortable and insulated as possible, while at the same time separating himself from her to guard against the pain of her expected, imminent death. He charges his housekeeper and sometime lover, Maria, with the task of finding a bevy of voluptuous nursing mothers, demanding that they supply his daughter with enough milk to keep her content and replace the banality of the spoken word by communicating with her only in song. Defying the odds, Esperanza grows into a beautiful but stunted young woman who senses her deprivation. Then one fateful day Don Hilardo finds himself confronted by the choices he has made.

Fengar Gael's plays have been developed and produced at Sundance Playwrights Lab, New Jersey Repertory, Abingdon Theatre Company, Collaborative Arts Project 21, Flux Theatre Ensemble and MultiStages, among others. She is a recipient of the Playwrights First Award as well as the Craig Noel Award and commissions from South Coast Rep, New Jersey, InterAct Theatre and a playwriting fellowship from the California Arts Council. The Island of No Tomorrows was a finalist in Repertorio Espanol's 2009 MET Life Contest; Lorca Peress directed the staged reading. Playwright and director also collaborated on Ms. Gael's critically acclaimed play The Judas Tree and recently on Gael's short play Morpho-Genesis presented in 2011 at New World Stages.

Artistic Director Lorca Peress is co-President of the League of Professional Theatre Women and a theatre artist specializing in new works. She founded MultiStages in 1997. Her multidisciplinary, multicultural theatre company has presented over thirty world premiere festivals, readings, and productions. She recently directed Anita Velez Mitchell's Temple of the Lost Souls, winner of four HOLA Awards. Her directing credits also include Arden Kass's Appetite with Tovah Feldshuh, part of the MultiStages Script Development Series, Black Girl You've Been Gentrified at Joe's Pub (Public Theatre) and LPTW Turning Points Benefit at Cherry Lane with Kathleen Chalfant. The Island of No Tomorrows creative team includes original music by Platinum composer Anika Paris (ASCAP, HOLA Award winner) and Nancy Binns Reed, projection design by Jan Hartley (Obie, Drama Desk Henry Hewes Design Awards), lighting design by Joyce Liao (Tony nominated Soul of Shaolin), costume design by Mark Richard Caswell and Jessa-Raye Court, choreography by Theresa Burns and musical direction by Bruce Baumer.

The Island of No Tomorrows takes place at THE INTERArt Theatre (500 W. 52nd Street, 2nd Fl.- off 10th Avenue) from November 8nd thru 18th. Performances are Thurs. November 8 thru Sat Nov, 10 and Wed.
