Welcome to THE FRIDAY SIX: Q&As with your favorite Broadway stars. Want to know what hooked them to a career in the theater? Their dream roles? Their Broadway crushes? Read on!
In this week's edition, we caught up with Shaina Taub, who stars as 'a Fate' in HADESTOWN, playing at New York Theatre Workshop.
What is the first Broadway or off-Broadway show you ever saw?
Beauty and the Beast.
What is your most unique pre-show ritual?
A lot of people are the opposite, but I actually love to eat before a show. I kind of use the impending performance as an excuse to eat however much I want - cause I need the energy, right?
What is your most memorable "the show must go on" moment?
I was playing Gertrude in Seussical, and we were performing for a giant audience of elementary schoolers in Chicago. The Cat in the Hat comes out holding Vlad the Vulture, a puppet that's essentially a giant bird head on a long stick. In the middle of saying a line, Vlad's head promptly detached from his neck-stick, hitting the floor and rolling off the stage. All the kids gasped and shrieked - it was actually kind of terrifying. I think we might have scarred them forever.
What is the one role you want to play before you die?
I hope I get to play a role that hasn't been written yet, in something I help create.
Who is your Broadway or off-Broadway crush?
Everyone in my Hadestown cast. It's a truly sexy group!
Where can people follow you online?
