In the United States, 2.6 percent of the adult population is living with bipolar disorder. An astounding 82.9 percent of these cases are considered severe.

In "The Agony and Ecstasy of the Bipolar Mind," Joy A. Paz chronicles her journey with her husband to live healthily, meaningfully and faithfully despite both having severe bipolar disorder.

Blending personal anecdotes with extensive research she's gathered over the years, Paz defines the differences between manic and depressive psychosis, while also including describing alternative treatments, drug therapy and psychiatry methods for bipolar disorder.

"I was so motivated with passion and drive to find out everything I could about the root of our disorder," says Paz.

The book depicts the startling realities the couple faced as Paz struggled to manage her mania and her husband suffered from severe depression.

"I experienced the ecstasy in life and my husband experienced the agony," Paz says. "This book shows how faith guided, sustained and blessed us throughout our lives."
