By: Lauren Wolman
When Hackmatack Playhouse Owner/Producer Michael Guptill greeted patrons preceding a show last Wednesday night, he mentioned that the next show, opening Wednesday, August 17 would be Alfred Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps." A woman from the audience shouted out, "It's a great show, everyone must see it!" Guptill was pleased, "Wow, there's an unplanned, spontaneous, compliment. It is a great play!" "I'll be here!" she replied.
In "The 39 Steps," a cast of 4 plays over 140 characters. It ended its New York run earlier this year having won two Tony awards. Hackmatack's version of this Alfred Hitchcock comedy/mystery/thriller includes Dan Clay, Jeff Seabaugh, David Kaye, and Amanda Dane. The original 1935 British thriller film was loosely based on the adventure novel The Thirty-nine Steps by John Buchan."The 39 Steps" closes this 40th anniversary season at Hackmatack and runs Wednesday, August 17 through Saturday, September 3.Photo caption: Berwick's Hackmatack Playhouse features "The 39 Steps" Wednesday, August 17 through Saturday, September 3.
