Turner Classic Movies will be airing the 1948 film version of Arthur Miller's play All My Sons today, August 20th 2008 at 11:45 am. Check your local listing for showtimes and channel information. The airing is to celebrate the life and work of Edward G. Robinson who starred in the film as Joe Keller.
The film also features Burt Lancaster as Chris Keller, Mady Christians as Kate Keller and Louisa Horton as Ann Deever. The supporting cast includEd Howard Duff as George Deever, Lloyd Gough as Jim Bayliss, Arlene Francis as Sue Bayliss, Harry Morgan as Frank Lubey and Elisabeth Fraser as Lydia Lubey . The film was directed by Irving Reis and gained two award nominations, Best Written American Drama and The Robert Meltzer Award for the film's co-writer Chester Erskine.
Arthur Miller's first successful play, All My Sons won the Tony Award for the author in 1947 and ran for 328 performances on Broadway. Miller took his inspiration from a true story about a successful business man who knowingly sold the government defective airplane parts during World War II with tragic consequences. The truth comes out and his life unravels when his son prepares to marry his business partner's daughter.
The upcoming Broadway revival will feature John Lithgow, Dianne Wiest, Patrick Wilson, and Katie Holmes, and will begin previews on Thursday, September 18th at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street). Produced by Eric Falkenstein and directed by Simon McBurney, the production will have its official opening on Thursday, October 16th and will play a limited engagement through Sunday, January 11th. The Schoenfeld Theatre box office will open on August 21.
