TCG Appoints Kevin E. Moore as Managing Director

TCG_Appoints_Kevin_E_Moore_as_Managing_Director_20010101

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre in the US, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin E. Moore as its new Managing Director. Moore, who currently serves as Managing Director of Arizona Theatre Company, has been a senior executive in the performing arts for nearly two decades, with additional posts at Herberger Theater Center Phoenix, Cincinnati Arts Association, Historic New Harmony and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Teresa Eyring, TCG's executive director, said: "Kevin is a highly respected theatre leader, who brings a wealth of knowledge and relationships from across the National Theatre field. His talent in all aspects of planning and administration will be a tremendous asset to TCG as we move toward our 50th anniversary year and launch the next 50 years of our National Theatre movement." Moore, who will join TCG in mid-October, will work in close partnership with Eyring, and will lead all aspects of TCG's business life. His experience includes significant accomplishments in staff management, strategic planning, board development, financial management, fundraising, marketing and communications.

On accepting the position, Moore stated, "To say I'm honored to have been chosen to serve TCG and the American theatre in this way is an understatement. I look forward to working with Teresa, the staff and board and the membership of TCG in advancing the goals of the organization and its member theatres."

When TCG began in 1961, there were just a handful of resident theatre companies spread across the United States. TCG's existence is credited with giving the field a sense of itself as a movement, and as a true National Theatre. Its organizational membership is nearly 700 member theatres and affiliate organizations, along with 12,000 individual members. TCG's activities fall into four categories: Networking and knowledge building, Publishing, Grantmaking and global fieldwide advocacy.

Andrew Hamingson, TCG's Treasurer and Executive Director of The Public Theatre, who assisted with the search said: "Our goal in the search was to find someone who could be a strong partner for our Executive Director, Teresa Eyring. I believe Kevin was the perfect match. He has tremendous business acumen, and will show great sensitivity to our member theaters. Kevin will be a wonderful leader for the incredible, dedicated staff at TCG."

While the position of Managing Director had existed in previous years at TCG, it has been on hiatus for the last four. Eyring believed that it was essential to reinstate this key position to staffing structure, and she received the board's full support in doing so. The search was conducted by Barbara Janowitz.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for the American theatre, exists to strengthen, nurture and promote the professional not-for-profit American theatre. Founded in 1961, TCG's constituency has grown from a handful of groundbreaking theatres to nearly 700 member theatres and affiliate organizations and more than 12,000 individuals nationwide. TCG offers its members networking and knowledge-building opportunities through conferences, events, research and communications; grants approximately $2 million per year to theatre companies and individual artists; advocates on the federal level and serves as the US Center of the InterNational Theatre Institute, connecting its constituents to the global theatre community. TCG is the nation's largest independent publisher of dramatic literature, with 11 Pulitzer Prizes for Best Play on our booklist; it also publishes the award-winning AMERICAN THEATRE magazine and ARTSEARCH(r), the essential source for a career in the arts. In all of its endeavors, TCG seeks to increase the organizational efficiency of its member theatres, cultivate and celebrate the artistic talent and achievements of the field and promote a larger public understanding of, and appreciation for, the theatre.
