'Strange Mary Strange' Debuts at SummerWorks Festival, Ends 8/14

By:

Theatre on the Verge presents the World Premiere of Evan Tsitsias's Strange Mary Strange, running August 4-14th at Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace as part of this year's SummerWorks Festival.

This play, workshopped at The Button Factory in 2010 through Pat the Dog Playwright Centre delves into the psyche of Mary Strange; when a moment on a plane triggers an avalanche of memories, Mary Strange is forced to confront and exorcise her former selves. The play is a study of ritual, memory, sexual addiction, forgiveness and hope, blending physical theatre and narrative to create a visceral experience inside the mind of a woman in the elusive search for "normal."

Strange Mary Strange features Sarah McVie (The Tempest - Stratford Festival), Catherine Rainville (Aftershock - Summerworks), and Emma MacKenzie Hillier (The Grace Project: SICK! - Next Stage Festival). The show is directed by Evan Tsitsias (Aftershock(writer)/Summerworks) and Esther Jun (Yellow Face, Kim's Convenience). Evan Tsitsias is an emerging playwright who has worked extensively as a director and producer in Toronto and is currently a member of the Tarragon Playwrights Unit. Esther and Evan are both members of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab and Co-Artistic Directors of the Directors Lab North, the sister Lab here in Toronto.

Strange Mary Strange is playing at Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace on August 4th at 7:00 PM, August 6th at 9:30PM, August 10th at 4:30PM, August 12th at 2:00PM, August 13th at 4:30PM and August 14th at 7:00PM.

Tickets are $15 and are onsale in advance at www.summerworks.ca or at the door one hour before showtime. Check out www.youtube.com/strangemarystrange to find out about Mary!
