On today's episode of THE VIEW, Steve Martin was asked about the latest news that plans were underway to turn FATHER OF THE BRIDE into a new stage musical. Martin's reply "I think it's a terrific idea. Can you imagine the closing scene on stage with the wedding and the music? Everyone would be crying and I'd be crying too because I'm not in it.

Thank you for saying that it's my iconic movie, because it's also Spencer Tracey and ElizaBeth Taylor's iconic movie. I think that Father of the Bride is a movie that'll be remade many time because it's an emotion that runs through life, a father giving away a daughter. I'm crying already."

Last week, Variety has revealed an extremely large slate of productions in development by Disney Theatrical Productions for potential Broadway and regional bows. On the list for Broadway - FATHER OF THE BRIDE is in development with Bartlett Sher on board to direct.

THE LION KING continues to reign as one of the most popular shows around the world. The global phenomenon can currently be seen on Broadway, on stages across North America and in Las Vegas, London, Hamburg, Tokyo and in March 2011, a new production will bow in Singapore.
