Deadline writes that BRIGHT STAR book writer and legendary comedic actor Steve Martin has signed on for Ang Lee's upcoming film BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK.

Martin will join Joe Alwyn and Garrett Hedlund in the cast.

Based on the novel by Ben Fountain, 'LONG HALFTIME WALK' centers on "19-year-old private Billy Lynn" and the Bravo Company, who "survive a harrowing Iraq battle that is captured by news cameras. They are brought home by the U.S. administration for a promotional tour, culminating at the spectacular halftime show of a Thanksgiving Day football game, all while facing an imminent return to the war." Most of the movie takes place during the day of the game, with the rest of the story told through flashbacks.

Among Martin's recent film credits are THE BIG YEAR and IT'S COMPLICATED. He is well known for his roles in THREE AMIGOS, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, FATHER OF THE BRIDE, THE PINK PANTHER and more.

Martin, who recently toured with the Steep Canyon Rangers, just wrote the book for the new musical BRIGHT STAR, which features music by Martin and Edie Brickell and lyrics by Brickell. The show made its debut at The Old Globe in San Diego last fall. He is also the author of the play THE UNDERPANTS.
