Name:
Kevin Munhall
Show: Anything Goes

Q: Where are you from?
A: Wichita, Kansas

Q: You're making your Broadway debut in Anything Goes. Has being on Broadway been what you had imagined it to be?

A: The tremendous amount of joy, energy, excitement, and adrenaline that I feel every night is exactly what I always imagined. However, the strain of doing eight shows a week and the normalcy that I feel dancing next to Sutton Foster are not at all like I thought. It's just an incredible blessing to be doing this show with such a fantastic group of people.

Q: Were you nervous for the opening night of your Broadway debut?

A: I was actually less nervous than I thought I would be. Since we had about a month of previews, it didn't feel like the first time we were sharing the show with the world. We had all found a really good pace and stamina for the show. It was such a thrilling night to spend with all of my friends and family.

Q: What's your favorite number from the show? Why?

A: My favorite number in the show is either "Gypsy in Me" or "All Through the Night". "Gypsy" is one of the best choreographed comic numbers I've seen on Broadway in a long time, performed by two of the hardest working and brilliantly gifted performers on the boards. Last week I snuck up to watch "Gypsy" for the first time in a month and it has continued to grow and develop even after opening. They are really terrific. On the other end of the spectrum-for my money, "All Through the Night" is the most beautiful and romantic moment in the show. Colin Donnell sings the song so tenderly and with such simple honesty and when the sliders open up to reveal Laura Osnes and the quartet on the ship in the starry night, it is a piece of musical theatre heaven.

Q: Did your family and friends enjoy seeing you perform on nationally televised shows like "Good Morning America" and "The View"?

A: They loved seeing it. My friends and family are the best. It was a great chance for people back home in Kansas to catch a glimpse of what I've been up to.

Q: Can you tell us about any backstage antics?

A: Which ones? (Laughs) well Raymond Lee and Andrew Cao are the masters of backstage antics. I frequently joke with them that the show wouldn't be able to run without their energy and laughter backstage. Between having a Wii Ping Pong tournament, Runway Sunday (a big, themed fashion show 15 minutes prior to Sunday matinee), and an intermission dance party before public enemy, this show is always alive and jumping.

Q: When you're not onstage you are...

A: I'm usually with my girlfriend (Allison McDowell), chilling in the park, working out, picking up something new at the library, or eating. Probably eating...

Q: Any words of wisdom for aspiring performers?

A: I'll repeat what was told to me by current Jersey Boy, Matt Bogart when I was in high school. If you can see yourself doing anything else, then do it. This career is a scary, uncertain journey of ups and downs that is really not for everyone. But if this really is the one thing that will make you happy, then train as hard as you can and hopefully your dreams will come true.
