Stephen Daldry might be one of the busiest theater and film directors, but he still finds the time to mentor students who are interested in BECOMING filmmakers.

Last year, while directing Tony Award-winning Broadway shows THE AUDIENCE and SKYLIGHT, Stephen was meeting in between rehearsals with students from the City University of New York. The premise was to communicate strengths identified on the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory in an innovative way -- by the students to the students. In Fall 2014, "Communicating Data through the Arts" was launched with Stephen Daldry, who was enthusiastically willing to mentor students involved.

The project began with a pitch competition at the New York City College of Technology. The winning pitch was taken to the City College of New York's Film Production department to the produce a short film that highlighted the strengths of CUNY. A master's degree candidate, Thanh Hoang, and her team used the winning pitch as a FRAMEWORK for the film, which evolved to a documentary short entitled "Pathways," which shadows the lives of three CUNY students.

Throughout the entire process, Tony-winning and Oscar-nominated film director Stephen Daldry mentored the CUNY students through the interdisciplinary, student-developed project.

The "Pathways" premiere was held on Friday, May 6th, at the City College of New York. Mr. Daldry was at the highly attended premiere to congratulate the student filmmakers, pitch competition student winners, and conduct a master class for students and faculty interested in film production.
