St. Louis Shakespeare Presents THE TEMPEST 10/1-10
Jerry Vogel, who directed St. Louis Shakespeare's critically acclaimed productions of Merchant of Venice and Treasure Island in 2009, takes on Shakespeare's magical tale of revenge, young love, reconciliation and hope which opens October 1st at the Grandel Theatre.
Prospero, (Robert Mitchell) Duke of Milan, is overthrown by his brother Antonio (Eric White) conspiring with Alonso, (Greg Lhamon) the King of Naples, and set adrift on the Mediterranean Sea in a small boat along with his young daughter Miranda (Betsy Bowman).
Marooned on an island for 12 years, Prospero has perfected his skills at magic and with the help of his servant, the fairy Ariel (whose many aspects are played by Emily Baker, Jenn Bock, Katie Puglisi and Macia Noorman) he creates a storm effectively shipwrecking a passing boat on which his brother and the king are traveling. His plan of vengeance is complicated by the appearance of Alonso's handsome young son, Ferdinand (Aaron Dodd) and the dark plotting of the monster, Caliban (Michael Juncal) whose one desire is to overthrow Prospero and take control of the island.
The Tempest runs October 1-10 at the Grandel Theatre (3610 Grandel Square). For ticket information please visit the SLS website at www.stlshakespeare.org or call 314.361.5664.
