The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will launch its national tour after a limited four-week engagement at Atlanta's Alliance Theater. The Tony Award-winning musical will open the Alliance's 2006-07 season with performances beginning August 23.
The Alliance's Spelling Bee will be directed by James Lapine, who also directed the Broadway production. Spelling Bee currently also has an open-ended sit-down production in San Francisco. The show features music and lyrics by William Finn with a Tony Award-winning book by Rachel Sheinkin. Spelling Bee was conceived by Rebecca Feldman with additionally material from Jay Reiss. The tour cast has yet to be announced. Spelling Bee will then move on to Baltimore in September.
