Sol Theatre Project Reopens With 'Art'
By: Beau Higgins
The Sol Theatre Project is opening its doors after four months of renovations with a new look and feel.
They have extensively renovated the theatre in the past four months to a sophisticated artsy vibe, and look forward to offering an exciting, new energy, and a new format of entertainment choices. They will begin with Yasmina Reza's Tony award winning play ART on Saturday, March 1st, starring Robert Hooker as Marc, Jim Gibbons as Serge, and Daivd Tarryn-Grae as Ivan. The show is directed and designed by Robert Hooker with Marc Scott as stage manager.
According to Hooker, "ART has been sitting on my desk for several years, waiting for the proper time to bring it to life. Personally and professionally over the last year or so, my world has prompted me to re-examine the meaning of relationships in my life, with long standing friendships taking the helm, in other words, ART. I have been close friends with Jim Gibbons for eighteen years and Daivd Tarryn-Grae for twenty-one years. The play celebrates the immense layers of trust, emotional support and need, ego, jealousies, and reliance that such long term relationships contain, often beyond our typical communications. There are so many aspects of the play that speak directly to our relationship(s) in life. Rehearsals are as much psycho-therapy as work - and a hell of a lot of fun and satisfaction."
ART will run only on Thursday and Saturday evenings after opening, with Alan Bowne's BEIRUT planned for Wednesday and Friday evenings in April.
In addition, they will be offering "The Player's Club" on Sundays at 5:30, where, for $7, you can enjoy complimentary wine and pizza, mix and mingle in their new space while a new large screen projection entertains with music videos and comedy clips. Equally important, the evening with be laced with audience participation cash prize games like a bingo game or two, a raffle, and an opportunity for you to get on stage and entertain us with the "Five Minutes of Fame" game, while earning a spin on the Player's Wheel for a spin to win $100.
