Slant Theatre Project will produce MINE, a new play by Bekah Brunstetter, at the Sanford Meisner Theatre, November 12 - 22, 2009. Written by Brunstetter (OOHRAH! at Atlantic Theatre Company), the cast features Lucas Kavner, Amelia McClain (Dance Dance Revolution), and Zach Shaffer (B'way revivals of The Man Who Came to Dinner and A View From the Bridge). Wes Grantom directs.
Annie (McClain), a poet with no time for poems, is caught between her wonderful, successful boyfriend (Shaffer) and her magnetic, brokeass, aspiring musician, coffee shop co-worker (Kavner). Set to the addictive, rollicking tunes of acclaimed singer-songwriter Joe Pug's Nation of Heat EP, MINE is a sharp-witted drama exploring love, identity, and the fine line between loving someone and getting what you want.
Brunstetter has been described by Vogue as "a fresh and funny voice - at once mocking and compassionate". L Magazine writes that "Brunstetter turns familiar lives and loves into potent symbols by setting them into a tailspin with strange coincidences and portentous encounters." She is the resident playwright at Ars Nova. Previously for Slant, she wrote the short play Leviticus.
Slant Theatre Project's previous productions include Egg Farm, The Obstruction Plays, The Horton Foote Project, The Debate Plays and CouchWorks, a New York Times critic's pick called "a lively collection of playlets that has the feel of a party thrown by the cool kids of downtown theater" (Jason Zinoman).
