'Simply Barbra' & The Delay Of 'Some Men'

By:

Due to revised current building codes and their inability to get a certificate of occupancy in a timely manner, The Rising Action Theatre announced with regret the postponement of Terrence McNally's Some Men to April of 2008.

"Chairman Vicky Keller, Director Michael Leeds, the cast and I are heartbroken at the postponement but we are anticipating a brand new opening date for the Rising Action Theatre" said Artistic Director David Goldyn.  "We had no idea the permitting process would be so arduous.  The new building requirements demand 2 fire walls, fresh air returns, exhaust fans in janitor closets--things we thesbians know very little about.  We are down but not out and we will open!"

The delay and postponement has cost this fledging non-profit theater tens of thousands of dollars. Thanks to public support they should be able to weather this financial storm. Tax deductible contributions can be sent to the Rising Action Theatre at 840 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Oakland Park Fl 33334. Sponsorships range from $50-$10,000 and include ads in the program or you can buy a seat with your name engraved for $125.

The theatre will now open with Stephen Brinberg in Simply Barbra coming in December. The opening date will be announced shortly, as soon as they confirm their certificate of occupancy.

Simply Barbra is the winner of New York's Prestigious Mac and Bistro Cabaret Awards.  Simply Barbra is a live musical tongue in cheek tribute to Barbra Streisand. Its won several cabaret awards and got raves in NY, Sidney and London.

New York Daily News said "The musical mimicry is amazing."

London Times said "Scintillatingly funny, unnervingly accurate. A touchingly true tribute to the towering talent (and ego) of Barbra Streisand."

Marvin Hamlish said "When you first hear Steven Brinberg in Simply Barbra, for the first brief moment, you almost think, My God! Is that really Streisand?  It is very impressive."

Simply Barbra is scheduled to run from Nov 30- Dec 23; with a Friday and Saturday show at 8:30 and Sundays at 3:30 and 7.  Tickets for Simply Barbra can be obtained at www.risingactiontheatre.com or by calling 800-595-4849.
