Michael Riedel of The New York Post has reported that Gwyneth Paltrow, media entrepreneur and Oscar-winner for Shakespeare in Love, is aiming to bring a musical inspired by the songs of the 80's rock group. The Go Go's to New York in the summer of 2017.
Paltrow is producing the musical, titled, "Head Over Heels", with her ex-boyfriend Donovan Leitch. Sources tell Riedel that the two held a reading last week and are seeking a well-established producer to assist them in navigating their first foray into the business of show. Another workshop has been planned the spring and the two hope for a Broadway opening this summer, pending theater availability.
Written by Jeff Whitty ("Avenue Q"), "Head Over Heels" made its debut over the summer at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Reviews for the show's initial outing were mixed. The show received praise for Whitty's script but was met with criticism for "an overlong and scattershot production".
It is reported that Michael Mayer ("Spring Awakening" "Hedwig and the Angry Inch") was at the helm of last week's reading and is planning to direct should the show move to Broadway.
