Sherman Playhouse Holds Casting Call for Dancers For SLEEPING BEAUTY
The Sherman Playhouse is seeking four female dancers - ages 7 to 18 - for its family Holiday production of SLEEPING BEAUTY.
SLEEPING BEAUTY is being presented as a 'Panto' or Pantomime in the British style. To make it very clear: There are no mimes in British Pantomimes. A Panto is like an American musical comedy with vaudeville routines. There are tuneful songs, funny jokes, and lots and lots of audience participation. It's the perfect Holiday show for children and adults alike, filled with fun, laughter, and happily ever after.
All auditions will be held at The Sherman Playhouse, 5 Route 39 North (next to the fire station), in Sherman, Conn. Audition date and times are Monday, October 3, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The call is seeking 4 girls, between the ages of 7 and 18, ranging in dancing experience from beginner to advanced. Auditioners may prepare a dance of choice and bring along a CD of music to which they can dance. But a prepared dance is not required.
The dancers will play the four fairies and will all have lines to speak. They will also appear as village maidens and comedy ghosts and will be featured in a ballet to the music of Tchaikovsky.
The production has been adapted and is being directed by British-native Patricia Michael of Dover Plains, N.Y.

Rehearsals begin in early October with performances beginning December 2 and running through January 1, 2012 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
