Shaina Taub plays Rockwood Music Hall on Friday July 13th at 7 PM, featuring brand new original music and songs off her record, What Otters Do.
The concert will feature Taub on lead vocals and piano, Mike Brun on bass and guitar, Hiroyuki Matsuura on the drums, Liana Stampur & Katlyn Swanson on back-up vocals, and special guest, Dave Melton, on piano.
Vermont-raised, New York-based singer/songwriter Taub has an ongoing residency at Rockwood Music Hall. She released her debut EP this summer, entitled What Otters Do, an eclectic six-song collection spotlighting Taub's unique breed of pop brewed with folk and jazz. She was recently featured on NPR/WNYC's Best Concerts of The Year list, alongside such greats as Mavis Staples and Taj Mahal. Her album is currently available for free download on Taub's website and all online music providers.
Taub’s folk-funk opera, The Daughters, has been produced at Joe's Pub, CAP21 Theater Company, The Yale Institute of Music Theatre and will receive a mainstage production at NYU'S Tisch School of the Arts this fall. She is Ars Nova's 2012 Composer-in-Residence, and is currently developing a new musical piece commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, as well as developing music for Walt Disney Imagineering. She is a 2012 Macdowell Fellow, and a member of the 2012 Johnny Mercer Songwriter's Project.
Rockwood Music Hall is located at 196 Allen Street. Admission is $12. Admission is free. The concert is on Stage One.
