'Shadow Theatre Thumbelina' Keeps Art form Alive!

Theatre for Youth and Village Players Performing Arts Center Presents:

Theater for Youth presents its final production of the season, Shadow Theater Thumbelina in the Mainstage Theatre, Saturday, May 24 at 11 a.m.

Shadow Theater Thumbelina was created by Artistic Director Michael-Colin Reed for TFY's 2005/2006 season in celebration of Hans Christian Andersen's 200th birthday and tells the familiar tale of the tiny little girl who proves to everyone that when it comes to making your dreams come true, size does NOT matter!

Reed and company member Zach Meyers hand crafted each and every puppet used in the production and the soundtrack features two original songs written especially for the show by Reed and one of Chicago's favorite cabaret performers John Jones. The soundtrack also features the voice talents of Lori Nicole Velazquez as Thumbelina and Zach Meyers as Prince Phillip along with Jeanne Scurek, Jamie Olah and a very well known Oak Park resident, voice over artist Bill Rohlfing.

Since its creation, this TFY touring production has delighted thousands of students and teachers in the Chicago-land area but has never before been presented for the general public! Shadow puppetry has historical ties to several ancient civilizations but is a very rarely practiced art today. Shadow Theater Thumbelina was created to help keep this beautiful art form alive for generations to come. Don't miss this opportunity to enjoy this delightful story told in the most unusual way!

Presented in the Mainstage Theater of the newly renovated Village Players Performing Arts Center located at 1010 W. Madison St., Oak Park. Plenty of parking is available on the street.
