'Seussical' Opens at Liberty Showcase

By:

Liberty Showcase Theatre presents its 2008 summer production of Seussical, with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, book by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, co-conceived by Eric Idle, and based on the stories of Dr. Seuss. The production is directed by Eric C. Stein, musical direction by Ted McCadden, and choreography by Angela Matsis.

Seussical is a musical based on the books of Dr. Seuss that debuted on Broadway in 2000.  A strange and fantastic red-and-white striped top hat appears on an empty stage, full of possibilities.  The story continues with a mixture of many of Seuss's most famous books, but mainly mirrors Horton Hears a Who!, centering on Horton the Elephant, played by Danny Romeo, who endeavors to protect the people of Who-ville, that live on a tiny speck of dust.  The Cat in the Hat, played by Aaron Dalton, acts as narrator and devil's advocate throughout the show often creating conflict and keeping the story moving.

Seussical features more than 30 adults and teenagers. The show features musical numbers such as "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think" and "Alone in the Universe".  Musical numbers are directed by Ted McCadden who also directs a 15 piece orchestra comprised of professional musicians, music educators and volunteers.

Liberty Showcase Theatre, with more than 100 shows to its credit, celebrates its 37th continuous year of providing quality family entertainment to the community.  The theatre group is a nonprofit program and an affiliate member of the Liberty Road Recreation and Parks Council.

Performances will be on July 18, 19, 25, 26, and August 1 and 2 at 8 PM. Matinee performances are July 20 and 27 at 3 PM.  The show will be performed at New Town High School, 4931 New Town Boulevard in Owings Mills.  Ticket prices are $16 for general admission and $13 for seniors and children 12 and under.  Special discounted group rates are available.
