Seattle Theater Group Presents CRUSHED And DANCE OF THE DEAD

By:

Seattle Theatre Group presents local dance companies, locust and Cruz Control in a split bill performance of two new works, "crushed" and "Dance of the Dead," respectively at The Moore Theatre Friday, February 27, 2009 at 7:30pm.

Amy O'Neal and Zeke Keeble's locust bring the world premiere of "crushed," a dance, music and video performance piece. Dancers sing and musicians dance in this feverishly physical dissection of cause and effect. "crushed" explores being caught off guard and how often times the entity doing the blindsiding is at times more affected than the blindsided entity. "crushed" is funded by 4Culture with developmental support by On the Boards and Creative Capital.

locust is the dance, music and video performance company conceived in 2000 by local performer and choreographer Amy O'Neal with musician and composer Zeke Keeble. Together the two have created five evening-length works and performed in theatres, nightclubs, galleries, movie houses and the streets. Locally locust has been produced by Seattle Theatre Group, On the Boards, SeattleArt Museum, Experience Music Project, Northwest Film Forum, Ten Tiny Dances, Bumbershoot and VelocityDanceCenter. locust is often described as the "avante guard garage band" of the Seattle dance scene.

Daniel Cruz's Cruz Control performs the world premiere of "Dance of the Dead," an interpretation of spiritual uncertainty of the underworld delving into the physical realm of hip hop, contemporary and theatrical dance forms. "Dance of the Dead" explores the realms of heaven, hell and purgatory including the fears, joys, beliefs and traditionsl surrounding death manifested in different ways across cultures.

Cruz Control is a Seattle-based hip hop company ran by choreographer, Daniel Cruz. Cruz's dancers are trained to hone their craft and be professional dancers-recognized throughout the Seattle community and nationally, some appearing on television shows, music videos and film. The company has performed at The Paramount and Moore Theatres, Seahawks half-time shows, Experience Music Project, Key Arena, and The Monsters of Hip Hip Show in Los Angeles.
