Seattle Rep Presents OPUS, 10/30 - 12/6

By:

Sex. Lies. Violins. A cast of all-Seattle actors dives into the passionate behind-the-scenes life of a fictional string quartet in Opus at Seattle Repertory Theatre. The play is inspired by violist-turned-playwright Michael Hollinger's own quartet experiences. Opus opens in previews Oct. 30 and plays through Dec. 6 in the intimate Leo K. Theatre. Tickets are available through the Seattle Rep box office at (206) 443-2222 as well as online at www.seattlerep.org.

In the play, the Lazara String Quartet reunites for the gig of a lifetime at the White House after a messy break-up. With a new, young, female member in the mix, tempers flare, relationships crumble and new ones bloom.

The all-star local cast includes Charles Leggett, Allen Fitzpatrick, Shawn Belyea, Chelsey Rives and Todd Jefferson Moore.

Playwright Michael Hollinger is a classically trained violist and former string quartet member. An accomplished playwright (Tooth and Claw, Red Herring), he is now a professor of theatre at Villanova University. Hollinger brings a lifelong love of classical music and a finely honed musical sense to the stage in Opus.

Director Braden Abraham has previously helmed a number of works at Seattle Rep, including My Name Is Rachel Corrie, Harold Pinter's Betrayal, and last year's hit Breakin' Hearts & Takin' Names. Other recent projects include Paul Mullin's The Ten Thousand Things at Washington Ensemble Theatre and The K of D by Laura Schellhardt, which he recently staged at the New York Fringe Festival.

Performance Details: Performances of Opus are at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sundays. Post-play discussions will be held after the performances on Sunday, November 8 at 2 p.m.; Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, November 15 at 2 p.m. There is an American Sign Language (ASL)-interpreted performance on Sunday, November 22 at 2 p.m.
