Scarlett Johansson to Star in Anime Action Film GHOST IN THE SHELL

Variety reports that Scarlett Johansson has agreed to star in DreamWorks' adaptation of the popular Japanese anime pic GHOST IN THE SHELL. Rupert Sanders is set to direct from a script penned by Bill Wheeler. Avi Arad and Steven Paul will produce with Mark Sourian executive producing.

Sources tell the site that Paramount has the option to come on as co-producer and financier. An announcement from the studio is expected shortly.

Johansson was recently seen on the big screen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as well as Chef, Lucy, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Widow in the wings. She voiced Samantha' in the Oscar-nominated movie Her and has also recently appeared in Under the Skin, Don Jon, Hitchcock, The Avengers and more.

Her Broadway credits include A View From the Bridge in 2010 and last year's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
