Saturday Night on the Town Presents BLUE COLLAR BAY & SURF AVENUE, 4/23
By: Kelsey Denette
New York actor, Stephen Axelrod, brings his acclaimed one-man shows to PFAA. Stephen's newest presentation, Surf Avenue, a variation and continuation of Blue Collar Bay, will be performed in tandem on the same evening. Each show runs about 60 minutes, for a full evening of theatre.
Blue Collar Bay is Stephen's autobiographical account of growing up in Queens, New York with a union truck-driving father and Stephen's struggle to break away from a destiny of following in his father's footsteps. Universal in appeal, Blue Collar Bay is gripping, dramatic and funny. In Surf Avenue, Stephen takes you more personally and in more depth into a peril-fraught trip from a tough childhood in Queens as a high school drop out to life in the Marine Corps, an insider's place on the New York Stock Exchange, and finally through his struggles as an aspiring actor. "Surf Avenue" is autobiographical and a testament to a life brought forward through hand-to-hand emotional combat.
