Sandra Bernhard Set for End-Of-Year Residency at Joe's Pub, 12/27-31

Sandra Bernhard and her band The Rebellious Jezebels will return to Joe's Pub at The Public for her annual residency beginning December 27 leading up to the not-to-be-missed New Year's Eve special on December 31 when she celebrates and reviews the highs and lows of 2012 with hysterical insight, outspoken views and an outrageous mouth. Discounted tickets for the New Year's Eve shows are available through Thursday, November 22 at www.joespub.com.

For her annual end-of-year run at Joe's Pub, Bernhard will perform ten shows total, two shows nightly from December 27 through December 31. On New Year's Eve, Chef Michael Oliver will have festive specials available and a champagne toast at midnight in addition to his eclectic American menu served nightly.

Bernhard's live performances are a hybrid of stand-up comedy and rock 'n roll, a raucous mix of political satire, pop culture commentary and cabaret. Her brilliant unity of hilarious diatribes on the state of modern culture and classic rock attitude burns smart. It's fresh, crazy and real; inspires and invigorates. In 2012 Bernhard became the co-star of the new Logo TV Series DTLA with Melanie Griffith. For more information or to purchase tickets for Bernhard's Joe's Pub dates, visit: http://bit.ly/RIl4qg.

Sandra Bernhard began her groundbreaking career at L.A.'s famed Comedy Store in the '70s, and since then has written and starred in numerous one-woman shows, acted in movies and on television, recorded albums and authored books.

From 1991-1996 Bernhard played Nancy Bartlett-the first openly gay character on a network sitcom-on Roseanne. And she has had guest starring or recurring roles on numerous other shows, among them: Hot in Cleveland, Law & Order: SVU, Will & Grace, The Sopranos, The L Word, Ally McBeal, The Larry Sanders Show, and The Richard Pryor Show. She has appeared more than 30 times on Late Night with David Letterman and has been a regular guest of Howard Stern's since the early '80s. Bernhard's film credits include Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy, for which she was awarded Best Supporting Actress by the National Society of Film Critics.

Bernhard's music albums include: I'm Your Woman (Polygram, 1986), Excuses for Bad Behavior (Epic, 1994) and the world music album Whatever It Takes (Mi5). She has also sung with or opened for various musical acts, including: The Pretenders, Cyndi Lauper, and the Scissor Sisters. Other notable performances include her participation in the Stormy Weather Benefit, the Rainforest Benefit, and The Elton John Tribute for Broadway Cares.

Bernhard has also written three books: Confessions of a Pretty Lady (Harper & Row, 1988), Love, Love and Love (HarperCollins, 1994), and May I Kiss You on the Lips, Miss Sandra? (William Morrow,1998). Her work has also been published in numerous magazines, including, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Conde Nast Traveler, Rolling Stone, Interview, and Spy. ABOUT JOE'S PUB AT THE PUBLIC: Joe's Pub at The Public is one of New York City's most celebrated venues for emerging and established performing artists. Named for Public Theater founder Joe Papp, Joe's Pub debuted in 1998 and plays a vital role in The Public's mission of supporting new artists while providing established artists with an intimate space to develop new work. Joe's Pub presents talent from all over the world as part of The Public's programming downtown at its Astor Place home. Open seven days a week, dinner and drink service is available during every performance.

ABOUT The Public Theater AT ASTOR PLACE: Under the leadership of Artistic Director Oskar Eustis and Executive Director Patrick Willingham, The Public Theater is the only theater in New York that produces Shakespeare and the classics, musicals, contemporary and experimental pieces in equal measure. The Public continues the work of its visionary founder, Joe Papp, by acting as an advocate for the theater as an essential cultural force, and leading and framing dialogue on some of the most important issues of our day. Creating theater for one of the largest and most diverse audience bases in New York City for nearly 60 years, today the Company engages audiences in a variety of venues-including its landmark downtown home at Astor Place, which houses five theaters and Joe's Pub; the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, home to its beloved, free Shakespeare in the Park; and the Mobile Unit, which tours Shakespearean productions for underserved audiences throughout New York City's five boroughs. The Public's wide range of programming includes free Shakespeare in the Park, the bedrock of the Company's dedication to making theater accessible to all, new and experimental stagings at The Public at Astor Place, and a range of artist and audience development initiatives including its Public Forum series, which brings together theater artists and professionals from a variety of disciplines for discussions that shed light on social issues explored in Public productions. The Public Theater is located on property owned by the City of New York and receives annual support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
