San Francisco's Marines' Memorial Theatre to Reopen Under New Management

By:

Major General Mike Myatt, President and CEO of San Francisco's Marines' Memorial Association, is proud to announce the reopening of the historic Marines' Memorial Theatre, located on the 2nd floor of the Marines' Memorial Club at 609 Sutter Street. Under the Artistic & General Management of Roxanne Goodfellow, the Marines' Memorial Theatre will change from its previous focus as an Off-Broadway venue to a nightly entertainment venue dedicated to bringing the best local, national and international musicians, dance troupes, theatrical productions, author talks & lectures, film presentations and more to Bay Area audiences. Bookings have already begun for the theatre.

The 650-seat jewel box theatre, located in the heart of San Francisco's theatre district between Union Square and Nob Hill, will become the only mid-size venue in the downtown San Francisco area that will have the ability to present short term runs of diverse and upscale programming.

"The Association operates San Francisco's own Marines' Memorial Club as a 'living memorial to pay tribute to Americans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces'. We are thrilled to resume management of the theater, which is the most recognizable feature of the Club, to the General public," said General Myatt. "With Roxanne's vision, the Bay Area can look forward to years of extraordinary entertainment and educational opportunities from around the world."

Built in 1926, the Marines' Memorial Theatrehas a long and colorful history. Originally a stage for nationwide radio broadcasts for such legendary stars as Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Jack Benny and Bing Crosby, the theatre later became the home to the celebrated Actor's Workshop, best known for presenting interpretations of modern avant-garde and politically oriented works by such playwrights as Bertolt Brecht, Harold Pinter and Tennessee Williams. The theatre was also the first home to American Conservatory Theater.
